Haywood Village sat about a day's travel from Newhaven. Its village head, Darles Carwin, posted multiple requests to the guild board seeking courageous adventurers — the reward climbing from 250 gp to 300 gp over time, suggesting increasing desperation or inflation.

The quest appeared on the board as early as Session 2 and remained open through Session 8, making it the longest-standing job on the board. Whatever was threatening Haywood, it was persistent.
