Potions
A potion can be consumed as a Bonus Action during combat if you have specifically prepared it beforehand โ tucked in a sleeve, clipped to a belt, that sort of thing. Otherwise, drinking a potion costs a full Action.
Resting
A Short Rest takes 10 minutes.
A Long Rest takes 8 hours. In the wilderness, a long rest requires:

Death Saves
No Critical Failures or Critical Successes on Death Saving Throws. Dying is serious enough without the dice making it theatrical.
Inspiration
You may spend an Inspiration Point after failing any roll to reroll it with Advantage.
